Starting School at Solent Infant School
A very warm welcome to all children and families joining us in September. Beginning school is a special milestone, and at Solent Infant School we are committed to making this transition happy, nurturing, and full of excitement.
In Reception, children learn through the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), where curiosity, independence and a love of learning grow through purposeful play and meaningful experiences. Our team carefully supports every child as they settle in, build relationships, and become confident members of our school community.
Learning in Reception
Every day in Reception is filled with opportunities to explore, discover and create. Children engage in a rich mix of child‑initiated play and adult‑guided learning across all EYFS areas, including:

Our curriculum comes alive both indoors and outdoors. Children enjoy bug hunts in the woodland walk, storytelling in the orchard, imaginative play on the adventure playground, and learning on our outdoor balcony spaces.

Transition to Solent Infant School
Our transition process is designed to help children settle smoothly. This includes opportunities to visit the school, meet staff, explore the learning environment, and take part in gentle settling‑in sessions. We work closely with families to ensure every child feels comfortable and ready for their first day.
Reception is a joyful place to learn, grow and play. We cannot wait to welcome you to Solent Infant School and begin this exciting journey together.
